Charlotte Couture
Charlotte directs and writes films that depict life, relationships and human behaviour in a deeply authentic way, and through a different lens to the one we’re used to. Her films allow audiences to accompany characters who are often unseen, and her visual style focuses on painting a picture of their psychological journeys.
Charlotte began her film career working in programming for the British Film Institute. Since then she has gone on to write and direct several films under her company, Seven Light Films, which have been recognised by BIFA, BAFTA and Academy Award qualifying festivals. She recently wrote and directed the short film Rose, made in collaboration with the Big C Charity. Rose's world premiere was at the Cheltenham International Film Festival 2023, alongside Loach's film 'The Old Oak'. It is BIFA-qualified, recently screening at Crystal Palace International Film Festival, Unrestricted View and Brighton Rocks. Her directorial debut was Different Day, which won Best British Short Film at Cornwall Film Festival, the Jury's Choice Award at The South London Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Film and Best Director at Unrestricted View. Her first film, O, My Friend (2019), which she wrote and produced, was nominated for best film at the Wales International Film Festival and screened at festivals around the world.
She has just finished working on a feature anthology with Film Suffolk and is now focusing on developing several projects including a feature film and television series.
Charlotte has been accepted onto the Directors UK Inspire mentoring programme, 2024-25.
